Sounds as if you didn't wire wheel the face. There's a fatty edge to the skin that attaches to the bill and if you don't remove ALL of it, the superglue isn't going to hold. There may be other problems, but that's where I'd look first.
The greese is more than likely the problem, but excessive heat can cause it to come apart also.

Well Sunlight aint to good for super glue either..I used to use just latex and anchor holes in the replacment head ..Now I use the superglue and after I dry the bird as I am setting it I use a syringe and long needle with latex caulk and go in through the ear or eye opening..The combination wont let ya down..Yu can build up cheeks and crest mighty easy this way..Also get a very smooth head to neck transition....Only my .02's worth
was the bill painted? and did you scrach the paint off around the cast head where you were gluing? seen that happen, the glue lifted with the paint..
my .02 cents worth.
Wally, what size needle and syringe do you use to inject caluk. I have tried several combinations and haven't been able to make any work. The caulk is too thick to flow through the needle opening. I haven't tried to dilute the caulk as I would think this wouldn't be a good idea. Thanks, REJ
18 GA works great...I put the caulk in with the gun and then insert plunger pushing out air... totaly killer for getting crest cheeks ect...i use Manus caulk which is very thick..Ya dont want thin runny or even cheap stuff then when it dries it shrinks..
