Has anyone mounted up a rhea or ostrich chick? What did you use for a body form? I know how to mold and cast so if that is a good option should I go with a foam cast? any info on skinning or mounting such an unusual bird is appreciated.

They are really quite easy to do. The main thing I noticed was that I needed to inject preservative into the leg bones themselves because they were very soft and filled with blood and fluids.
Think soft, wet chalk and you will have an idea of what I mean.

If they are very young don't be surprised if you encounter a real egg yolk mess when skinning them! (Make note of the general body shape BEFORE skinning!)
Also, they work better if you mount them wet and then fluff them after they are sewed up.

what did you use

I just used a scrap of regular expanding foam. Sometimes when I need extra foam for carving rocks or whatever I will jusy pour some into a paper bag, let it expand, and then slice off whatever size I need.

thank you
