I have been using 30 minute bird tan. I usually put it in the fridge when I'm done and reuse the tan 2 or 3 times before mixing a new batch. It seems to be working, but does anyone else do this or is there a problem withing do it?
Return to Bird Taxidermy Category Menu
Click the orange "SEARCH" icon and type in "Bird tan". You might be a little shocked to find out that most bird taxidermists never use that stuff anyway. But who am I to tell you. Read and enjoy.
What do you use then? Dry Perservative for everything from ducks to turkeys? Just curious...
Or powdered borax. Works fine, lasts a long time.
I don't need the search button. I've seen all of the debates and I've personally decided to use it. What I want to know is can I reuse it 2 or 3 times. Thanks for the help, but I'm that not really the question I'm asking.
Kale
Kale-You can use the stuff over and over and over-with the same results (which are minimal if any?).
Do yourself a favor (and your customers too if you have any?). Switch to powdered borax.
LMAO I'm glad I didn't have to say that. They already think I'm a grouch. LOL
Thanks for not even coming close to answering my question. I never asked a thing about whether or not you should tan or not. I have seen the tons of debates arguing both sides. What I asked was can you reuse the tan. Giles answered yes, but you have to wonder about the answer giving the context it was in. Thanks again for all of the wonderful help and I'm glad I could help you add to your sense of overall superiority.
Giles information is still correct. Unless you dilute it with bicarbonate of soda, borax, or DP, your "bird tan" can be reused. Keep checking the pH. NOW, this part about"tons of debates arguing both sides" is pure bull. Now it may have been "argued" repeated by bull heads such as yourself, but the BIRD TAXIDERMISTS don't use it. Ask for Tony Finazzo, Nancy Mulligan, Stefan Savides, Dave Luke, or Patrick Rummans. Then YOU list a name of someone well recognized who used your bird tan concoction. Then THAT will be an "argument".
But, I don't want to start one of these threads so I am very sorry for upsetting you. The issue is dropped.
I see that you have met the taxidermy net's resident dumbass g roof. Don't worry---he acts like a retard on a regular basis. He shouldn't even be answering questions about bird taxidermy considering the quality of his own work. If you check this site out you will find that roof is never wrong about anything---yet he is a "hack" and a "crappy taxidermist"---his words by the way---so don't feel bad about his assinine response. He isn't singling you out---- he is just mentally challenged.
