Feathers falling out by the hand full

Just started a wood duck hen today, and during the skinning process, bunches of down and top feathers started falling out. There is no damage to the skin or the feathers. The quills seem very small, could this be a young bird or something else. Is there any way to replace them or am I just out of luck. The feathers are off the back by the tail, and it's a standing mount with a wing out, preening. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Could just be the bird is spoiled?

Woodies are easy to screw up, could be ruff handling and OR a spoiled bird.

Did you thaw it over night? How was it frozen? Did it take days to freeze?

Spoiled or not

Was with the client when it was shot, and feathers were starting to fall out after we picked the bird up. Thawed the bird in fridge for three days until I could move legs and wings and neck, then started skinning on friday 4-30-04. Was frozen within 30 mins. after being harvested. Been in
freezer since 11-25-03. Could it still been in a moult phase or diseased
