caulk drying time

I just reread the article by Cally Morris on mounting a full shingled strutting turkey. My question is how long does it take for three to four tubes of caulking to dry in side a bird.I read the previous entries on caulk in the wing webs but this is a whole different ballgame. Thankyou in advance.

It depends

It depends on the brand of caulk, the temp and humidity in the room. I would give that much caulk a minimum of two weeks to completely dry. Might be dry in a week, might take a month....

Acrylic/silicone caulk

In his article, you will notice, Cally uses acrylic/siliconized caulking which is much different than the more popular latex caulking. When silicone comes in contact with borax or dry preservative it sets very quickly. In fact, if you take longer than 30 minutes or so to get everything exactly where you want it you will have a horrible, UNMOVABLE mess. Latex caulking takes longer to set because it isn't affected by borax.
I've tried the silicone, and like it, but only in certain applications and ONLY when I have the skin exactly where it needs to be.
Good luck!
