Has any one used his system? It seems like a good idea to remove the time invloved in cleaning the wings and drumsticks.Whats the best tan for birds or should i just use dry preserve? Thanks

The Joe Ferebee Turkey system is a fairly good system. However, it is a bit more expensive to mount turkeys this way. Buckeye Mannikins has a similar product where the drumsticks are built into the form and the wing inserts are similar. For my turkey work, I just wire the wings and rebuild them with cotton/caulk/clay and I use the Buckeye Mannikins forms. I like the Buckeye Mannikins forms for one reason, the drumsticks are threaded to receive the threaded rod from the leg. With this method, I don't have to worry about securing the threaded rod with bondo or with a nut, the method of securing is built into the form.

As for tanning birds...you can use any number of things. I know people who have tanned turkeys with Lutan-F, but the skin never seems to get firm as it dries. I haven't heard many good things about Liqua-Cure or the WASCO bird tan. For my birds, I use either Dry Preservative or just plain 20MuleTeam Borax. Works fine.

Threaded inserts

Just taking a stab at this, I haven't done this myself but wondered if any of you have. Is it possible to to tap the drumsticks with a 1/4-20 tap to accept the rods? Second question. Are the Buckeye forms with inserts made with inserts (metal, plastic) or where they tapped?
