feather pocket help

I am fairly new at taxidermy. I have mounted 20 or so ducks in all different positions with good success. Tonight I am trying to mount a standing canvasback. I am having a ton of trouble. I know the archives are full of wing pocket info but i was hoping I could tell you guys and someone could tell me what I am doing wrong. The form seems to be a little small which I think is a good thing. The feathers that form the wing pocket want to sag down rather than naturally cover the wing. Does this mean the wing is too far forward? Pleasa help I have been screwing with these wings for three hours.

If the form is OVERLY small then this will result. Try cuting a slit in the skin under the wing and stuffing some cotton into it to see if this helps.

This can also happen if the form is too big.. amazingly... a slit under the wing can help in that situation as well by allowing the side pocket to fall into position without being stretched.

There is no true need to sew up the slit if it falls into place, just let it be.

Good luck,
Jon

thanks jon

Jon, thanh you so much for your responce. I will try this and see if it works. If it does, you will save me tons of time in the future. People like yourself make this forum priceless to taxidermists. (especially rookies!)
