If it was a wild duck, it is illegal to sell, barter, or trade regardless if it's 18 years old or anything else you might conjure up. Stay away from this one.

Your bird must be captive-bred/pen raised and be accompanied with documents verifying this (from the breeder) for the bird to be legal.

Also, birds not indiginous to this country do not need paperword and can be sold/bartered/traded etc....Mandarin ducks, Parakeets, Starlings to mention a few.

Parrot should have the band on thier lag.

Parrots are strickly controled. This is done with a metal band supplied by the UFWS, the band has stamping on it. The band is also places on the leg before the bird grows up. Its a endless band!

My game warden says....

(keep in mind, game wardens don't know everything). I was talking to him about selling unclaimed waterfowl and yes its absolutly illegal to sell them...however, he said, with the proper possession papers waterfowl can be gifted and just charge for my labor, he didnt have any problem with that...I'm still skeptical though and not going to fall into that trap. It pays to do your homework on such matters, I'm gonna go alittle higher in the ranks and hear it straight from the horses mouth, it is serious business....Best advice I've heard on here is to get a 100% deposit on waterfowl.

State game wardens don't all make themselves current on Fish and Wildlife (Federal) laws. He may not have a problem with you selling waterfowl under certain cercumstances, But The Fish and wildlife service does. Don't do it period. I bet if you got busted for it, the fact that that wardon told you it was OK would be inadmisable in court. You would be the goat. Unless you get it in writing from the Fish and Wildlife service don't even think about it.

Good advice Tony and I will heed. Like I said I'm not going to bite on what the warden said, they all have thier own interpretations...Hope my thread didn't come across like it was ok... bottom line Gary, do not sell wild waterfowl !
