Magpie Skull

H'lo. Today I found an intact dead magpie and I would like to preserve the skull and the claws/legs. The bird is very fresh, only a day old I figure. I've read some posts here on beetles and boiling and ammonia baths and such... all seems a bit complicated. Can someone please simplify the process for me?

It is illegal for you to have the skull in possession-even to keep one feather would put you in violation of Federal Law. It does not matter if you found the bird dead. Best thing to do is to put it back where you found it!

Please. You're telling me that the body parts of a dead bird found in the wild are protected by Federal law?! What about all the folks that hunt and keep trophies? Oh, I s'pose they're licensed to do so, right?

Does it make a difference if I'm not an American? Cuz I'm not.

I find this reply really kinda hard to believe. I would like to see some documentation on this... please post a link to somewhere where I can read this law.
