could anyone please adise me of how to clean a mounted bird .
I only mounted this small finch about a week ago and it was in my workshop drying, this morning when i checked the mount i saw to my horror that a snail/slug had somehow got onto the mount and left that horrible trail over the head and down the side of the mount, can anyone advise me the best way to clean the bird, if i leave it will it dry ond brush off ? or will i need some type of wet cleaner ?
thanks in advance

I'm sure this happens all the time, probably atleast 5 pages on this subject - LOL ~~ Sorry, I couldn't help myself..Actually sounds like something that would happen to me :)
Hopefully someone will have a suggestion, maybe a bit of acetone on a Q-tip would work? But seriously, I'd concentrate on ridding your shop of all slugs, not good for business..
Good luck

done searches for snail, slugs, snail trail etc but no results found can you give me an idea of which keywords would lead me to the pages you mention
thanks again Rob..
Spray some windex on a piece of paper towel and wipe it down. Probably better off doing it twice (clean towel), then dry with hair dryer on LOW and with the LAY of the feathers. This should work.
If there's one thing that living in the Pacific Northwest has taught me, it's some of the characteristics of slug/snail slime.
Whatever you do, don't get it wet!
Leave it alone, don't touch it. Let it get good and dry and then brush it away. If you have already put Windex or any other water-containing product on it ... well, um, my condolences.
Thanks for the tips, I have not touched it yet so I guess I will leave it a while then go with nancys method.
thanks
Rob.
can't believe no one noticed what kind of bird it was. hope that you're little finch is a legal one.
thanks for noticing but try to remember there are taxidermists outside of America (me for example) where it is legal to mount most birds.
My bad! I should have said I have never had that problem on any mounts. But, I have washed the slime off of outside furniture, etc. with windex with no problems. I also should have said to wait for other answers and if no response to try it on a small patch.
Thanks Nancy for the correction!
