Preserv-it and glycerin for bird feet

In Taxidermy Today I read about injecting a mixture of preserv-it and glycerin into bird feet, and had a couple questions if anyone uses this method. What is the ratio of each in the mixture? Once it is injected, would the foot need to be posed before freezing it? When it thaws will the foot be stiff or pliable ?

Still new, but maybe this will help!

I'm just finishing up a professional school in PA. We used a 50/50 mix of glycerin and preservi-it. We used it during the mounting process. It is injected to reduce shrinkage during drying. While drying the mixture can be reinjected multiple times to keep legs plump. Be very careful not to get on any driftwood that bird may be on. Driftwood will absorb and stain. We put the mixture in then mounted the bird. I have no idea what it would do in the freezer. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that does help

In the article the feet were put in a freezer for 4 days to "set up". I don't know what that meant exactly.

You may want to think about using a product called Master blend. It is the best product you can use for all bird feet. It fills the feet adequately, but dries in only 5 minutes. Great stuff!
