Just wondering if these are protected birds? Has anyone ever mounted one?

The easiest way to figure out if a bird is protected is. If you can't hunt the bird legally, then consider it protected. Get a copy of your hunting rules, and waterfowl hunting rules from your state. It'll have the birds that you can legally hunt. Those you can mount. It's the safest way to keep out of trouble.
