I want to try my first turkey this week and I'm curious to how long it will take to thaw out before I can start working on it. It is 24 pounds and has been in the freezer for three months.
Also, does anyone have any tips for me on thawing it out?
Stop Rot?
Thaw in water?
etc, etc?

It will still be fozen for the most part, but you should be able to skin it. Makes it a much cleaner operation, and that nasty fat mass in the crop area pulls off a lot easier when still partially frozen.
Have fun.. they are a chore!

on both counts...Turkeys are alot of work! ...but if it's still partially frozen it makes removing all of that jello-like stuff alot easier!
I wouldn't recommend thawing in water..we leave ours sit out for the day, then when we leave, put them in the fridge overnight..may need to sit out a while again in the morning
Good luck

PS - Jon -I seen your post about the class/seminar you're giving..wish I could attend!
