EUROPE EYES ; HOW CAN I REMOVE COLOR AND RE-PAINT?

Submitted by Frustrated Perfectionist on 07/23/2004 at 16:52. ( ) 68.252.98.146

Can anyone tell me how to safely remove the paint from acrylic Europe eyes without harming the acrylic itself in order to repaint them? Also, what paint is compatible with the paint already on Europeyes, water based or solvent based? Finally, how can scratches be removed from the eye surface? Is a coat of liquid crystal going to yellow or turn cloudy over time? Is there a way to buff blemishes out of the eye surface without resorting to clear-coating? Thanks.

Some eyes should be put in a cigar box and/or the trash. Your time is worth more than to screw with these and quality eyes are not that expensive. Even Jesus was not a perfectionist or else he wouldn't picked you and me. Why drive your self crazy with this.

hey jim

If I need to mount a bird with small eyes and I care what they look like then there are absolutely NONE made in the USA that will work.

Tohikon's small eyes suck, and so do Van Dyke's.

Right now I need eyes from 2.5mm up to 5.5mm, and sized by half mm increments. They need to have a consistent curvature and centered pupils that MATCH. They also need to look good from extremem angles.
If I end up having to make them myself I can promise you they won't be glass, but I would much prefer to buy them already made, even if it means I have to import them myself.
Euro-eyes are FAR superior to Tohikon's in the smaller sizes, even if they are, unfortunately, made of acrylic.

Do yourself a favor and check out this site for glass eyes, for there is none better.
http://www.eyedentity.co.uk/
AND if you say you are prepared to go to the hassle of making/repainting acrylic eyes, then you should have no complaints about the little extra you pay for these quality GLASS eyes.
Every size in every SHADE, large or pin pupil.
Whenever l need anything other than a brown eye l look here.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

The reason I was trying to paint my own eyes was because the manufacturers and distributors I'd contacted would take custom orders to my specifications and then either leave me hanging or send me something very different than what I asked for. This was with me sending clear reference photos and diagrams to them. This has cost me in time (averaging a month and a half for each order) and of course money. I happened to have quite a few Europe eyes in stock and thought perhaps there was a way to rework them for pupil size, color, etc.,... I'll be trying the eyedentity web site suggested by Gary.

Cheers, F. P.
