first time rearticulating old museum skeletons

I have four old skeleton mounts that look like they were constructed in the 50's and are now falling apart. One in particular I am asking about has a heavy gauge wire fed throught the neural canal anterior-posterior with a lighter gauge holding the individual vertebrae together and to the frame. Can I take out that central wire and just epoxy the vertebrae together?

If anything...

Take off the littel wires and keep the one in the neural canal.

Optimally though... keep it how it is; redo the wires but use the same technique. No need to add chemical adhesives that are reversible only with some difficulty.
