Where can I purchase formaldehyde? After several months of research and debating wether to go this route or not, I have decided to start using formaldehyde and glycerin to preserve my bird feet, simply the best results that I have ever seen..just don't know where to buy it..?
Fully aware of all precautions to take..
Thanks for any info

With all the other less leathal options WHY?
You may have to sign for it, but drug stores can order it for you if you can't work a deal with your friendly undertaker. That's the answer, but I agree with Wally.
What do you think glycerin will do;isn't it an oil?
glycerin refined animal oil
Dixieland Supply has formlin
and Wedor co. 800-598-3106 I still use it as it works. Until something better comes along.
still wondering why you put fat back in the legs?
Maybe something like elmers glue and formlin or elmers and formaldehyde or a two part epoxy would work as good ?
I'm not sure exactly WHAT (the glycerin part) does, if you hit the orange button and type " formaldehyde gylcerin " the subject titled "injecting duck feet" offers some opinions as to why this method works as well as it does...It's worth taking a look at..and yes, freezing the feet is another step that will help your feet to look even better...
All I can say, is that this technique is THE BEST that "I" have seen to date...
I'm sure others here have used this method..what are your thoughts on it..? If you have used this method, have you been able to find anything on the market, minus the formaldehyde, that will replicate these same results..? After all, It would be nice to know that I could achieve the same results with a different product that didn't come with the obvious toxicities...I haven't it found it to date though, but would be willing to give it a try...?

My posts were to make you think ,Why, when we try so hard to get the fat and meat out of our bird skins, your putting it back in.
I'll give it a shot, Jeopardy style..
What is "to replace the fat (or atleast the look of it) that was lost"?
That's most likely what this combination does. After all, if you seen feet done with this method, they are very "natural" looking and duck feet in nature, more or less, look plump and fatty...
Do I win a prize?
Seriously, are you saying that elmers glue and formlin work as well? What exactly is formlin?
Well, off to take care of my live birds, I think I'll take another look at their feet :)

I agree that f-hyde and glycerin gives about the best results possible at this time. I have also seen some good results with f-hyde and alcohol. Formalin is simply a name for diluted f-hyde---as mentioned you can buy it from dixie supply. I really wasn't impressed with the results from f-hyde and elmers glue.
Frankly I don't see the problem with using the f-hyde if you take safety into account. It is pretty funny though that some guy will question the use of f-hyde but he will turn around and suck masters blend or injecta cast fumes every day till his liver explodes. Some people just don't get it. HA HA HA...
Look up chemical supply companies. They will have it, as well as glycerin. They will also probably have some other aldehydes which may be slightly less toxic. I have been tempted to try substituting some of them, but they aren't cheap and I'm old-fashioned enough to stick with what works.
The reason glycerin works is because it doesn't immediately evaporate and shrink. Elmer's glue shrinks considerably when it dries.
The injectable resins give mixed results AT BEST. I don't trust them at all, and the fast-setting ones are by far the worst.
(On large birds with thick feet, like raptors, I still prefer to split the toes, remove the tendons and fatty tissue, and preserve with borax before re-building. Super glue seals the incisions.)
I didn't know glycerin evaporated?
But I'm not 100% sure that it might not eventually get smaller ... even if it takes decades before it happens.
Rather that make a claim that I wasn't sure of, I hedged a little.

Thanks to everyone for their imput..
Have a good weekend..

Wedor chemical out of wiscosin sells it in any quanity. Their phone number is in the last several issues of Breakthrough. a 70%/30% mix seems to work great for me. good luck
