You can all shoot me if its in the archives. I did look a little and didn't see anything. I don't have time to go through every match for "turkey skin".
Anyway, I have a customer who wants his turkey skin preserved so it hangs down with the fanned tail on top. I saw these on ebay a while back, and he saw it in a hunting mag I think he said. I can do fanned tails fine, but how do I dry the rest of the skin properly so it hangs right? I am going to mount it and the tail to a cut peice of plywood so he can easily hang it. How should I mount it to the plywood backing? No wings on it. I am also doing a feet and beard display seperatly.

I cut out a silhouette of the shape of the skin our of luan paneling INCLUDING THE TAIL. I defat the skin, wash, tumble, and then glue it to the luan with Epo-Grip Epoxy Hide Paste. Then it's easier to install a sawtooth hanger high under the tail so the mount will hang down properly. I always allow it to dry with the tail down so the feathers will lie in place when it's done.
Luan?
Thanks George,
Jon~
Luan is a cheap grade of 3/16 (nominal 1/4) inch, 3 verneer plywood made from Phillippine mahogany (NOT to be confused with real mahogany) or sandie board. It's used as underlayment for vinyl floors, for drawer bottoms, door panels, etc. It works well with a utility knife, jig saw, saber saw or band saw.
