I have a hen Wood Duck that I want to mount with her head sticking out of the entrance hole. My question is, how do you and where do you secure the body to the box? Also, do you use a full manikin or trim it?
Thanks

I mounted just the front half of the bird. Then I took 2 eight inch pieces of 10 gauge wire. I stuck one through the hens back vertically and one horizontally to form a cross. Then I shoved her head through the hole from the back side and then stapled each leg of the cross to the interior side of the duck box. She fit the hole tightly and her feathers fluffing through the hole hid the wires.
Either wrap 1/2 of an excelsior body with a flat end or cut a commercial foam body in half giving you a flat surface. Mount the bird then bondo either body to an oversize piece of plywood. Push the bird into the hole and screw the plywood to the inner surface of the box. This will give you a wiggle-free attachement. JL

I have some baby woodys that died last spring. If interested, they're
free. Licensed and legal. You'll need to pay the postage and they are
yours. Good Luck Bob. Jungman Fresno CA. (559) 269-3336
