I recently picked up my Pintail mount from my taxidermist, and am not very happy. His work is beautiful as usual, but I am kicking myself for not being clear on my intructions. We did a Jump mount to show the graceful lines of the back, but he positioned the wings in the upward stroke, hence showing all the underside of the wings, not the color on the back if the wings were in the down position.
My question to all, Can the wings be re-positioned to the downward postion?
Thanks, Trip

If your taxidermist did such a great job? why not take it back to him and sit down and talk communication is the key between you and your taxidermist. if you go moving those wings around an snap it off then how you going to feel towards him , you will blame it all on him when that wing snaps off instead of taking it back like you should and try haveing it done right.

taking it back to your taxidermist and allowing him to create the pose you are looking for. You should also PAY him for this work. You just admitted that you were not clear in your instructions for the mount and left it up to your taxidermist to position the wings.
We all have miscommunication at one time or another. If you fail to clearly establish how you want something done, well the other person can't read your mind.
It's sort of like bringing your car to the paint shop and tell them you want it painted blue without telling them what shade of blue. If you need to bring it back to have it repainted they will charge you for it since it is not their fault but yours for not being specific in what you want done. Same here.
Evidently you are very pleased with your taxidermist's work and you should bring the bird back to him and have him do the adjustment of the wings, if that is at all possible at this point. The more communication the two of you have the better for the both of you.
I apologize to all in that I was/am not upset with my taxidermist, I am upset with myself because I did not communicate clearly with him. I never have any probs with his suggestions and/or work. When I dropped the bird off I had a particular pose that presented alot of difficulties and may have not been practical, and we settled on a flying pose if I remember correctly. On the way home he called and suggested the jump pose and I totally agreed since I actually harvested the bird on a jump shot! I just thought the wings would be in the down position and didn't think to question otherwise. Any mis-communication obviosly rests on my shoulders, not his!
The intent of my post was only to ask if the wings can be moved, and of course I would gladly pay for the work. I just wanted to know if it could be done or not? And it seems that it can, Thanks to all!
now the we have determined fault.. HEHE.. just joking... we really have to ask if this is possible. As a bird person.... I would no recommend it if it is more than a couple weeks DRY. Depending on your taxi's means and methods this could be impossible.
I would suggest that if You're happy with the mount and can live with the current pose.. chalk it up to experience. Once a mount is dry, the work involved to change a pose as drastically as that would be a major task. I would charge at a minimum of double the cost of the original price. And there would be NO guaruntees on how the finished product would look or if you would even end up with a mount.
Good Luck however you go.
