4 lb 4 oz box in the soap aisle. No soap ADDED. You do not want soap in it.

Boraxo will work just fine

The pH for both is nearly the same and years ago, Tide was used on birds when borax couldn't be found. Borax is mineral and Boraxo is a name brand. Years ago, when a goose neck wouldn't slide up, we "greased" the neck material with liquid soap as a lubricant and a preservative.

Won't the soap get "gummy"?

Borax and soap will get gummy

Even pure borax, by itself, when hydrated will produce a gum. That's what you get when you "pickle" fish in a borax, denatured alcohol, water solution. The borax settles as a sludge on the bottom and then hardens so that when you clean the bucket, often times you have to bang it and you get shards of "concrete" borax slabs.

Excuse me................
