I have heard of people taking the heating element out of a house hold dryer and making a tumbler...wonder how feasable this would be?

I have the Van Dykes tumbler you are refering to. I like it very much. Mine is the 55 gallon version so I can tumble geese also. It turns at 14 rpm which works just fine. It's not to noisy and the motor is strong enough to turn just fine. I used the converted drying for a long time. It worked ok accept for geese. The other drawback was that it turned too fast. It's a great tumbler for the price.

I guess Im cheap but I use a house dryer that is sealed up and the heating element unplugged. Works great for birds, ducks and mammals as well.

and ya dont have to mess with the cob in the feather blowing all over..I cover skins ion old clean towels to absorb a good [part of the moisture then I like to work with skins wet so i dont have to fight with sewing..My new 6hp shop vac rules it also works great for grooming fur as well
