I have a federal permit for migratory birds and have read the exhausting rules. My birds are all mark properly and written down, I have several birds that where given to me by the hunters for my personal use and I wrote all of this down on the tag and fed.book, is this legal? also, some of them are freezer burnt and I have disposed of them, do I need a permit for disposal?

I do believe it is illegal to have those birds that were given to you. I'll do some checking and post again..........
I have never heard of any permits for disposal.
as long as they were legally hunted, it's OK. You cannot sell a "gifted bird" though. Just record everything like you are doing.
Many is the time I've seen people try and get creative with the laws. The birds were gifted to you. You can gift them to someone else - but not trade or sell them. You cannot for example say "I GIFT you the birds, but am charging you $90 for the taxidermy services" then sell them the mount. The birds cannot be involved in any part of the transaction. "I'm selling you this habitat base - oh and what the hell I'll give you the birds to and not charge you for them" is also a no no. The birds then become an incentive and are part of the transaction.
Just a heads up for ya =)
I sure appreciate all of the responses, I'm going to continue to look into the rules so if any of you find something that pertains to my question your info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again
As I understand the regulations, it is illegal to keep over the possesion limit without a taxidermist license....atleast thats how it works in Wisconsin where I live. I also know for sure that you need a business and tax number to aquire it.
If your not over your limit you should be fine.
Are you the one who I got the Hooded Mergs from a few years back?
I'm in Alaska.
