can someone suggest a good video on bird taxidermy. I purchased the Breakthrough manual and it talks about tanning the skin. I am looking one that also covers dry preservative.

Many of the videos use dry preservative or borax as part of their mounting process. I would suggest that you purchase a video mounting the bird you are going to mount in the attitude you are going to mount it - e.g.flying or standing I have seen many different ones and most are excellent for the basics. Ones done by David Luke, Sally Dahmes, Stephen Salvedes, Patrick Rummans are all good choices - and there may be others. Remember that much of taxidermy is personal choice - I do not tan bird skins - that does not mean it is wrong, just not necessary as far as I am personally concerned. Good Luck
By far the best bird mounting videos I have seen are the Flying and Standing duck videos by Stefan Savides that are available from Research Mannikins. Well worth the price just to see and learn his wing wiring that replaces carding.
