Wing Cleaning for Dog Training

I like to use quail, pheasant, and duck wings for training my lab. I keep them frozen when not in use. What is the right way to clean/sterilize these wings? Thanks much.

They really should be dried and preserved. By thawing and freezing you are opening up a door for bacterial growth and a health hazzard to your pup. Once or twice you're probalby okay.. but anymore than that.. and you're risking the pups health.

now to answer your question. the wing can be completely skinned and all the meat removed and dried that way... or you can incise under the wing and scrape the meat out that way.. I would avoid using a preservative on them as I'm sure that it would taste bad..

OK, so it sounds like I should scrape away any meat on the wing and let it air dry. Correct? I suppose I could spread some borax around where some of the meat may have been? Should that do it?

You can just let the wing dry.

No bigger than Pheasant and Quail wings are they dry fast. It is no more dangerous to your pup than feeding it dried beef(jerky) I have bird dogs and have never ever had them get sick. Also the key with wing training is to not let the dog have the wing(pointing dogs). That is just an early training game for the pup. At least that is the way for pointing dogs. I am no expert on labs though.
