Hello, I have been mounting waterfowl for about 2 years now, and about 30 birds later I still have not figured out the best way to anchor a speciman to the base.
For example, I just finished a flying drake woody, I ran a support wire through the body, drilled a hole into the driftwood, at the right length from the wall I just bent the wire over, and put a drywall screw into the hole with the wire(on the back side of the driftwood) Then I took some epoxy and covered the hole and screw.
Is this correct? Sometimes my bases can't sit flush wit the surface they're on due to the excess wire.
Any publication recommedations or info and insight into good wiring anchor into a base would be greatly apprciated.
I have a pair of brant to do soon!
Thanks, Great web site!

Take a 1 1/2" flat wood drill bit, after you have drilled your holes for the wires. and counter sink some holes a 1/2" deep. Put your wire through, bend it over, put in your srcew, then bend the wire in a half moon shape, and staple it down, then hot glue it all. This will hold your wire in place, and let the back of your panel, ect. rest flush against the wall.
I use a dremel to cut out a channel for the wire to lay in. I staple and install the screw. Then, I hot glue a piece of felt over the entire mess so that it won't scratch the wall.
