if a guy was to figure out a way to hold a goose wing on a flying mount in place while it dried out with out putting a wire in the wing would it support its self or do you have to have a wire?

You need to support the wing internally. Wire is the best way.
You wouldnt have a problem with the wing drying in an outstretched position but then you wouldnt get the wing to stay in a flying pose , it would droop down . Why wouldnt you want to put a wire in it ? Rick
question. If the manmikin was properly prepared to receive the shoulder joint and there were some method to hold the joint in place, wing bones would easily support the wing. Unfortunately, the bones alone are not sufficient anatomy to hold the wing open or the feathers where they belong. In real life, the feathers are all controlled by the wing muscles and tendons. During the preparation process all this anatomy is removed and replaced with non decomposing material. The wing will not stay open on its own, and the feathers will not set corectly and in a natural manner. Thus the need for the wire on the inside to keep the wing open and the wires and cards/tape on the outside to align and orient the feathers. Without the muscles and tendons, the skin is all that would remain to hold the wing together - it is not enough for a lasting mount. Good Luck
The skin gets too brittle. It is possible just dont bump it, and if the humidity gets high in the area you have it hanging your screwed. Carding would be a real bitch.
The dried skin would never hold the weight of the feathers.
