Sewing help?

I have done about 8 birds now and all but 3 have came out great but the 3 that didn't its strange.
Where I sewed the bird up on the breast wont stay fluffed out, and I get an indentation down the breast about 2 ½) long.
What could be causing this?
Am I pulling the thread to tight?
Or do I need to place some thing be hind my stitches?
thanks Jim

Maybe after the bird is sewn up work the skin forward and even up on the head.

Many times we tend to pull the skin to far to the rear.

Could be

a number of different things. If the indentation is near the front of the belly incision, you probably forgot to replace the "crop". If you did replace the crop then the amount was not sufficient or the manikin was too small. You may also have forgotten to "tuck" or "fill" the side pockets leaving too much skin on the belly. There may be feathers sewn in the incision or a little grease remaing on the feathers so they do not "fluff" equivilantly. The manikin you selected may have been flawed. If you tied your own, that could also contribute. Lastly, if you cut too far forward on your belly incision you could have a problem approximating the skin back in the original position which could easily cause the problem you describe. Sewing it too tight is probably not the culprit in this case. If the bird is not dry - pull the stickes and start again. Good luck

Yep this could be OR to large of stitches or the type of stitch?
It really helps to get the feather groups aligned and pinned in place before ya sew..I somtime's use the little thread tags tied in the insision across from each other as I cut this way you absolutly cannot get the alignment off.
The probabilty offeather in or grease is a possiblity like clewis mentioned.if you ever come into a to dry situation mist it and allow it to rehydrate....

Look at reference

Some birds have a natural "crease" in this area and it shows. Look at some photos and you'll see them. Maybe yours are like this already and not a fault of yours.

thank you
