I send all my stuff to a tannery. They can probably recieve it for you and then ship it to you.
I haven't had them sent to a tannery and I don't think that I would. Find a customs broker near you that is approved and have them sent there.
You might want to make sure he knows the proper field care as well.
be on the shoulders of the hunter. Field care is critical. Bringing back birds in the "round" may be impractical depending on the number involved. Making sure that the outfitter has a place and is willing to freeze and keep the birds during the hunt is also something to verify. Not all the birds will be prime - the hunter will need to know how to select the best specimans including looking for and identifying pin feathers. I would encourage you to have the hunter take close up pictures of the bills and feet of the birds for your reference. good reference pictures of non-US birds are sometimes hard to get. Close ups of the top and bottom of the bill with good color will be invaluable. The birds can come back to the States with the hunter on the plane. The transfer point will be the USDA at the airport - they will take the birds and transfer them to the named recipient you designate. They have a reference book at the check in point with all the names and address of those authorized to receive birds - so, make sure the hunter has the correct forms, name and address and that the import agent is in the "book". There are Argentine birds that ARE on our mirgatory bird list and many that are not. Those that are, such as cinimon teal, have a collective import maximum number that is very small - for other birds there is no limit. Sometimes those at the USDA check point do not know this and will challenge the entry attempt for exceeding the import limit. Your hunter will need certain forms and also know the scientific name of each bird that is imported. I have come back to the States through Atlanta and Miami and used folks in those states to receive and forward the birds to me. To date they all have made it without difficulty except for the mountain of red tape. If you have additional questions I would touch base with a person in your State who has an import license for birds. By BTW you can apply and receive a USDA import license, they are expensive. Good Luck
I said for the tannery to receive them for you not tan them. If you're not USDA approved . I have a tannery I do alot of business with and they would receive for me. I didn't know I would have to explain it second grade level.
The Import facility you send the birds to must follow a list of rules. The birds MUST BE: skinned, fleshed, degreased washed, disinfected, and the fat and meat must be burned before they can returned to the client. Ofcourse there is a fee involved. The Taxidermist recieves a bird ready to mount. Most Taneries have permits to import mammal skins. If they have one for birds, they must follow preceeding proceedures or risk losing their liscense. I doubt any tannery is going to skin and degreese birds lol.
for other taxidermist. The charge for this service is $85 per bird plus shipping. You recieve the birds ready to mount.
I don't know of any tannery that is approved to recieve bird trophies since they have to incinerate all the flesh and fat and disinfect the skins. To find an approved establishment in your area you can contact your local USDA office and they can give you a list. You are limited as to how many birds are brought into the country from Argentina. If I am not mistaken it is 10 ducks and 5 geese no matter what the species. You must contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service to get the exact numbers. Since it is coming from Argentina you do not have to have a migratory bird import permit. In addition you need to take the paperwork of the establishment with you so when you come back into country you will have everything. I am an approved establishment and would be glad to help you if you have any questions. 1-859-233-9619
