I recently bought some polytranspar water based arcylic airbrush paint to paint my artificial heads and i really like the way bills that are painted solid black look but any other color runs and doesnt stick to the bill. Do I need to get a different kind of paint or am i doing something wrong?

The heads probably have some release agent of silicone on them from the mold. Wash in acetone and then orange cleaner or Dawn, rinse and then try to paint. I don't use polytranspar, but doesn't have a patent primer or surfacer that you can use prior to applying pigment?
No matter who made the bills I buy they all get washed with lacquer thinner, then I give them a coat of clear shellac. Never had a problem with paint staying on. Good luck....JL
Let me guess. You are using water base paint. I have the same problem with the water base. It takes a little different technique. I find that I have to use several light coats to get it to work. It just won't go on as heavy as laquer paint. Nor can you hold the tip of the airbrush as close to the surface beign painted or you get what I call "spider legs."
