Go to the book store near where you live or look on this web site, and get a book on Taxidermy. After you become familiar with the subject, and if you are still interested, you can get some video tapes. Hope this helps, good luck !
I checked out 3 books from the libary a couple of days ago but they are all really old and make it sound so simple the newest one was written in 1987. Thanks Mr.A but I dont really understand it do you tan birds like you would a mammal or do you just rub borax on them put it ona form and call it done?
You do need to use borax, it will preserve it, but you will also need some other materials. (wire, clay, eyes, etc.) I would suggest a pheasant for starters if you have access to getting one. They are more durable to work with and make a pretty mount. It would help you alot if you had a video, for beginners explaining the process. Good luck Kayla and don't give up.
Most of us started using the dry preservatives that you rub on. This will work fine for you on birds and small mammals. Check out the section of this web site on books. They are up to date and very good. Chin up !
Like the other posts here have suggested you need to get some better intructional material. Most of the taxidermy suppliers sell books and videos. Whatever you do don't be discouraged if your first attempts "don't look too good". There is quite a learning curve and you will get better with each try. So good luck and have fun!
Peace!
