What makes Master Blend any better

Submitted by Mike patterson on 2/18/05 at 3:10 PM. ( ) 64.12.116.199

I've heard that Master Blend is really good. Can anyone explain to me what makes it any better than Fantastic Cast or Epo-Grip? At the present time I use Fantastic Cast (injection grade) I like the viscosity of this product because I can use insulin syringes. Epo-Grip was a waste of time due to the fact it had a very short working time and I used two or three syringes per foot. Has anyone got a suggestion for coloring these materials? I forgot to mention that I haven't used formaldehyde and glycerine. I would appreciate any info that you are willing to share .

Hi Mike,
Try the formaldehyde and glycerin. Mix it 50:50. I transfer it from my bottle to the insulin syringe with a larger syringe. You will get MANY applications per syringe and have the added benefit of actually being able to control the fluid within the foot. If you don't like how it looks, move it around. To get even better results, after injecting put your entire bird in the freezer for 5 days. The glycerin keeps the formalin from freezing and allows it to work while the outside of the foot is frozen and can't shrink.
If formaldehyde scares you Bruce Rittel has a product called Preserve It. Mix it in the same 50/50 ratio and use the same way.
Feet done this way need to be injected ONLY ONCE!
Give it a try!

Mike for one thing Masters Blend doesn't smell.I have some of that stuff but it smells so strong I can't use it. I keep the Masters blend in the fridg. It works great for me.After each enjection I load up with acetone and blow out the syringe before I reload. I use the syringe on 2 different mounts.

Has anyone tried the Bird Feet Perservitive that WASCOs sell

masters blend doesnt smell?

it is about as strong as bondo. infact, i try to save it for the last thing i do during the day so i dont have to smell it all day long. i inject and wait until it sets up.....then close up and go in the house.

as for the original question.

i like the fast set up time of masters blend. believe it or not, i have had fairly good results coloring it with powdered tempra paints. although it does increase the thickness, so you will need a larger needle.

I meant Fantastic Cast, Bw

I like the Masters blend a lot. Have no problems with it but The Fantastic cast has a powerful smell and it takes longer to set up.My nose works pretty good. I have a fishing buddy that's rotten if you know what I mean! The nose works so good I have to run up to the bow of the boat.
