While doing this years take in of ducks we noticed that a lot of both puddlers and divers have their food bags packed with "gobies". We've never seen ducks so full with these small round headed fish. The ducks we get in are bagged in the midatlantic states.
One mallard drake was crammed with 21 gobies.

I heard of a few Wood ducks and a couple Mallards with up to 15 acorns in them this year down here in Texas. It amazes me that they can even swallow just one acorn, much less carry that many around with them.
The ones down here are full of corn
Round gobies are a terribly invasive species in the great lakes, with numbers increasing each year. As far as I know, they are a fresh water fish. Not sure how they wind up on coastal species unless they are travelling through fresh water areas. I believe they got introduced to the great lakes through ballast in ships.
