I use reference off of the ferebee paint schedule books and follow everything as he says. When i am done painting i notice small cracks in certain areas of my bill. Then when i apply matte finish like he says, the cracks become even larger and more noticeable. Help

Probable causes are one or more of the following: if you use water based paint, the paint was not properly mixed - more water than pigment - when it drys it cracks; if you use a artificial head and do not clean the bill before painting, the release agent from the casting process will not bond with the paint and it will crack; if you use an air brush and spray too much paint at one time it will crack during the drying process; the application of matt will do nothing to repair a crack - it is a sealant for the application of the next coat. Coverning a crack in paint with another coat of paint seldom works and generally looks like a crack painted with another color. When I make one of these mistakes, I take acetone and remove all the paint and start over - no real big problem and you will be much happier with the result. Good Luck

What kind of paint are you using?

Are you using the real bill or artificial? Do you give the paint enough time to dry between coats? Is the reall bill completely dry and done shrinking before painting?

Many times if the base coat isnt dry the next coat will act as a solvent to the base. most of the time this will cause orange peel.

Clewis made the comment about release agent. Paint does not bond to any area with release agent on it, so when the paint shrinks it will separate and crack.
