Teal are not much better...Just go real slowly, especially around the flank areas...Stay with it...You'll get it!

Tail fell off?

I usually take the tail off most birds anyway and bondo them back on later so that is never a big deal. As far as the holes that is nothing thread and a needle couldn't fix. From this point forward don't through anything away. Pretend everything is for a customer and a really picky one too. You will eventually realize that the more mistakes you make the longer it will take you to finish a mount. This is a priceless lesson to learn! Also you will realize the difference between a good and a great taxidermist.

A good taxidermist doesn't make many mistakes.

A great taxidermist knows how to fix mistakes he or she made....Remember this.

Why would you remove the tails on most birds other then birds like pheasants or turkeys? Im confused why you would do this? I mean if it works for you do it. Im just trying to see your reasoning.

Don't throw the next one away..

Continue through with the mounting, there will be other things you learn along the way, after the fleshing, that will help with the next duck you do..Some people like to remove the tail..I only remove the tail on birds with big tails like turkeys and pheasants..try leaving the tail attached next time..before you sew it up, put some caulking down there and after mounting, position the tail and when the caulking dries if will hold in place..
Good luck
TJ
