Any advise on what to do when mounting a snow goose with a neck band - collar? Do you remove it and put it back one after the mount is done? Whats the best way to do this? I plan to use the original head and bill. This is the first one I have done with a collar.

Skin the head as though you were going to use an artificial head. once
the head is removed, you can clean it, borax it and let it dry. you can also remove the neck band at this point and finish skinning the bird.
I would defat the bird, wash it good and then place it in the freezer until the head is dry. once the head is dry, thaw the skin, rewash it
and proceed with mounting. before attaching the head to the neck slip the neck band back on and finish attaching the head.
via cutting at the seam is not a good idea? I would rather not skin from the bill but like yoiu do when using an artificial head but I will if I must. At that point I may as well go ahead and get an artificial head and use it.
Been there, done that...I mounted a Snow not too long ago and forgot to put the neck collar on. I cut the band along the fold/seam with a fine hacksaw blade and was able to open it enough to slip over the neck...I was afraid of it breaking if opened too much, but it worked. A little super glue on the cut and I can't even tell it was cut. Good luck!
