Hanging a goose without drift wood

Submitted by Larson on 3/16/05 at 1:15 PM. ( ) 12.106.25.202

I always have used some sort of drift wood or plaque to mount birds on other then a few pheasants. I now have a customer who doesnt want anything behind his birds. He wants them to just hang on the wall with a wire. Any tips on how to do this on a bird such as a goose. I really dont want to have it right against the wall.

There is a hanger advertized in Breakthrough and I think in Taxidermy Today. That has a small wall plate with a rod that comes off the wall a little way. This might be just what you need.

For ducks and geese placed between the wings on the back and use 50lb. monofilimant or braided line so they just appear to be flying in air.Maybe this will work for you, just a thought.

All you need is enough wood to hold a hanger.Once it is pulled into the goose by the mounting wires, you won't see it. Good luck...JL

Not that hard

I usually run my anchor wire through the piece of driftwood that I like, bend into a 180 degree or a U shape, and hammer this in the wood, put a hanger on it, done. For this, you want to run your wire to the wall, bend up, so its 90 degrees, or straight up, go several inches, then bend to the right and down, 180 degrees, or an upside down U shape, go back to where the wire first hits the wall, and cut. Now, at the top of the loop, put a nail on the inside, and crimp this down over the nail shaft, so that the top of the loop is smaller than the nail head. Go down one inch, and bend each suport wire out along the wall. You do this so the mount wont roll back and forth. imagine the siloett of an upside-down funel. You just have to play with it to get it to work. You may not even have bend the wire, but geese are a little big not to. Try to anchor the wire in the bird so its balanced somewhat, than it wont be to tippy. Good luck
