I'd think that once plaster came into contact with a wet duck, it would start setting up and all you would get is crusty duck. lol

whoever told you to try this trick is most likely messing with your mind, I wouldn't try it, but if you do please post some photos of it when your finished.

It works

This response submitted by done it/ still do it on 3/19/05 at 10:11 PM. ( ) 63.227.249.26

I have used plaster many times to dry ducks and geese after they were last washed in colman fuel and it works really well. Plaster will not set up in/with fuel. Dries fast and comes out clean.

Ive never heard of using this, so im curious why use plaster of paris and not some other type of powder that wont possibly set up?

Especially on white birds. I still prefer corncob grit and hardwood sawdust though.

I have used Diatomaceous Earth(Swimming Pool Filter Media). It works great. I use 30 gal plastic container with the media in it. Leave the bird in it for a few hours and then blow dry. Works great.

That used to be the prefered method, and it does work. The problem is it leave the feathers looking dirty. They don't have any sheen when dry.
