Is there any special syringe used for this procedure and when you inject it does it tend to want to spread throughout or is it easily contained to the top ? Also how much is enough ? I'm fairly new at this but did a hooded merganser a couple weeks ago and had to settle for a half crown. I have a woody I'm doing in a couple days and would like to try this. Sorry for the extended version but I appreciate the help.

Monoject syringes from Dixieland Supply work great.
i dont have any trouble with the crests on my birds. if you get the skin clean enough on top of the head, you will have the freedom and control you need to make the feathers stand up.
i think most guys neglect some areas on the head when they are at the wire wheel. they either think there is no fat so they dont need to flesh it, or they are afraid to take control and flesh that area well enough because it can be so delicate.
