I am mounting a pheasant with artificial head, How do I skin out the pheasants head? Do I cut out the wattles? How or what do I use to re- create the look of the wattles when painting the artificial heads if I have to cut out the original natural wattles. Any suggestions for paint color for the beak or wattles. Any one know of a good video showing the use of an artificial head.

a lot depends on the type of head you are using.
I would be useing a ferebee head unless someone knows of better ones
or you'll be in a bind. Trim carefully where the beak meets the feathers and slowly work the skin back away from the beak. you should already have the neck out by this point so once you get the skin over the head it will slide out. Then you'll have to turn the wattles from the inside, like turning a deers eyelid, so they'll lay on the artificial head. Use a sharp scapel, take your time and good luck.
Skin it out exactly like a duck! It doesn't look like it will go, but it goes easy! You just have patience! It's a little more intricat! Cory C. has an awesome pheasant head in Matuska and I hear Tony F. does as well! Use caulking in the wattles!
Check WASCO they have a head with rubber waddels, it turns out beautiful.
Tony, I notice you don't advertise, You're a very modest man! Tony also has an artificial head, and many other bird species as well, I order them from Dan Rineharts taxidermy supply in Edgerton Wisconsin. Very competitive prices with the highest quality. Also very convenient, (only five miles away from my home.)
Hey...here,s one...dont use anyones head...use the real skull, make sure you open the wattles well. have fun and good luck.
