Dose anyone have a size chart of the right Eye size and color, neck Dimension and body as well. What gage of wire I should use. I see a lot of taxidermy catalog with diffrent size on the bird. but no one list the neck size or wire size I should use. I know many catalog have these size, but a lot of them have different size listed and sometimes the color as well. I have found out that Van Dykes listing is sometimes wrong on the size. None of the taxidermy catalog list all the birds.

is different. I have only done a dozen birds or so, but just flat out ordering from a catalog for a species RARELY works without taking a knife to a body or neck. especially if you want to pose the bird with a bent neck. You need to take measurements of each birds body to get something that fits...birds definitely vary in size. same with eyes and neck diameter and length. the eye size in catalogs i have found to be fairly accurate, but you need to measure and trust those measurements for body and neck size ande length. Or just build your own body. Since there is some much variance from bird to bird, there are no lists that I know of that will work for every bird. If you have 12,14,and 16 gauge wire that will work for most ducks and upland birds, but depending on if it is a flying or standing mount, the wire size will change on which part you put it in the bird.

This was just asked
