Overnite shipping = slipping feathers

Submitted by Brad on 4/18/05 at 4:00 PM. ( ) 24.182.227.124

I recently received 2 ducks from a breeder that I paid extra for overnite shipping. According to the tracking, they left him @ 2pm and arrived here @ noon. When I took out the birds they were "warm". I ran my thumb over the feathers and one has slippage around the vent area about the size of a silver dollar, the other has a spot on his back about the same size. Just wondering what the chances of this happening is if they were well-frozen prior to shipping. I've received customer birds that were overnighted and have never had this problem.

I would bet ALOT that they were not frozen hard before they were sent.

Also could be the bird sat around for quite a while before it was frozen. Have seen that cause slipping before.

Brad , I know that when I take a duck out the freezer to work on it takes at least a day to thaw enough to start skinning and the inside is usually still a little frozen or cold and this is having them unwrapped . If you got two birds in a box they should have still been frozen . The bird that was slipping was probably found dead in a cage before the guy did anything with it . Rick

Thank you...

I've tried contacting him several times since, even emailed him pictures of the slippage, still no response yet. Just wanted to confirm my thoughts before going any farther. Thanks.
