Pintail Hydrid

A friend of mine shot a duck a while back that he thought was a regular pintail. But after looking it over, I would say that there is a very good chance that it's a pintail crossed with something. Has anyone ever mounted one. Looks kind of weird/cool. The tail feathers aren't nearly as long as a normal pintail but still there. I guess I'm mounting it for him and just wanted to see if anyone has ever come across one before. Thanks.

A few years back I mounted a mallard/pintail cross..it looked like a mallard with a long pointy tail, and it also had the white stripe going up the side of the head just like a pintail....last year I mounted a mallard/shoveller cross also...Rich

I shot one this year. I was told it was a brewer's duck (gadwall x mallard), but I still think it might be mallard/pintail. The bird had a short sprig, green speculum w/white side bars and a mixed brown/green head. The bill was patterned like a pintail, but it was yellow where a pintail is gray. I'm planning on mounting it in the next couple of months.

I killed one two years ago-Had the blue and black pintail bill, green head and white ring but the white ring went around his neck and up toward the head like a pintails does. The brown of the mallard breast was very dull and blotchy. Had the green pintail speculum and no pins. Yellow feet. I mounted it flying and got a second at a show, then gave it to a good friend when his wife agreed to let him have a bird in his house. Killed a brewers last year in mid October-very pinfeathery, they have the yellow bill and yellow feet, too bad the head didn't have good color yet-very cool and rare.
