After tumbling a turkey fan, how do you get the feather fletching to match back up and look natural?

I'm missing something

First, I try to avoid tumbling my fans at all costs. Even if that means spot washing. But usually the fans are rather clean to begin with. Once I have it fleshed and run through the wheel, I use 2 inch masking tape on the backside. I arc the feathers so they form a semicircle and then tape them. Atop this tape, I put a thin wire and tape it to the tape. Now the tail is supported while I epoxy the quills down.

Or bondo it

I flesh it and then spread it apart on a block of styrofoam and pin it. Put some wax paper underneath and pour some bondo around the quills. After it dries, I do the other side also. But as George said, all I do it spot clean it IF it needs it.

Thanks
