i have been mounting birds for alittle under a year. i've done 20 turkeys using commercialy dried heads.i herd that you could skin the head out, put it on a form, inject the top of the head and other soft spots with fantastic and put in a frost free freezer for a couple months and it would freeze dry. has any one ever tryed this?

I've heard that you can do this too. I've also heard that if you mist the head with water just efore you put it in and maybe during the freezing process it will dry quicker.

Sounds like

Alot of hours worth of work to me. I would say at a shop rate of at least 25$. You would have more time and money in that process then it would take to make a call and get one already done. Just my two cents. Jack F

Works great!

I have done a few that way and had great results, but like Jack stated, it does take some time to prep and months to dry. I buy mine now.

I would like to try this (just for fun)

Is it really as simple as you say?
