Someone told me that when working on white bird like snow geese, they would wash the bird in dawn first then wash them in tide. Has anyone heard of this?
If you could do this can you still wash the bird in white gas after?
Can this be done on bird that have some white and other colors, like pintail?
He said this will make the white cleaner, and brighter.

Dawn will clean everything off the bird except blood. For blood use rust remover. I have also noticed that when you have a handful of tide and get it wet it seams to get warm a little. That might just be my imagination but warmth and bird skin = Slip!
Tide will work. It is a little harsher than Dawn and in my opinion there is no better grease cutter than Dawn. Tide may need a little more rinsing.

Like Tony said, it is a bit harsher than dawn, but I do use it from time to time, especially when I'm working a large bird like a turkey or swan. Don't really know why, probalby because I don't have to wait for the dawn to squirt out of the tiny cap.
dawn is the better of the two at removing fat and oil, but tide or any other cheap laundry detergent ( I use Arm&Hammer )is good for prewashing the feathers on muddy, bloody, dirty.. birds.. Makes the dawn last longer.
just my opinion though, and I have never had any adverse effects.

Before there was DAWN we used TIDE. Now the question is which DAWN is best. DAWN OXI, DAWN Lift action, Dawn with bleach and 5 or 6 more types of DAWN. All on the shelf in blue, green, orange, yellow or clear.
I just use the generic dishwashing soap. The results all seems the same for me anyway.
I could offer the degreaser I use, I work at a chemical plant and use an industrial degreaser that we use to wash out reactors that are used to make oil-base products. You only need to use a teaspoon full to do a large mallard. The company that carries this product (Triton 101, or Surfonic N-95) is Chem Central. I will tell you that it is not too harsh, and has a wonderful fresh smell. I also bought a drum of odorless mineral spirits, that actually has no odor. Not like the stuff you buy at the hardware store. I honestly can tell you that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this stuff and water. I'll see if I can find a web-site for these two companies if someone is interested. Both products are considered non-hazardous, so a HAZMAT certification wouldn't be needed.
