I purchased his pheasant head and i have to cut the beak off the real head and attach it to his head. How much of the skull should i leave on the beak to attach the artificial head . Should i cut it off directly behind the rear edge of the beak? Or leave a quarter inch? Then superglue it to the artificial head. Thanks

WHY?
I know there must be some reason, but in all the years I've beend oing this, I've never heard of that. I've mounted them with the real heads, both preserved and freeze dried and I've used artificial heads, but never tried to combine the two.
I've used his heads many times and like them the best. DON'T cut the bill off the skull. Skin the head down to the base of the maxilla and cut where it meets the skull, leaving the bill attached to the skin.
Do the same to the mandible (lower half of the bill). When you mount, place a small amount of clay between the maxilla and artificial head. I then add some clay to the throat through the mouth and blend it into the artifical head.
I agree with Wil except for the clay between the maxilla and the artificial head I use epoxy. That way it is kind of like gluing it to the head.
