I mounted a snow goose about 3 weeks ago. I've been painting it this evening and kept getting a whiff of something. Figured out it was a wing joint that had been hit when shot. Had some trouble with it when inverting, but cleaned it fairly well (I thought).
I was going to get the bird to the customer tomorrow, but what the heck can I do about the smell?! Or, do I just keep it for a few more weeks and give it more time to air out?

Keep it a few more weeks, and the smell should be gone. I usually wait a month or more before sending out geese, because their huge wings take forever to dry. If you are able to bend the wing tip at all, it is not fully dry yet. Wait till the wing is stiff as a board, which is also when the smell will be gone.

You may think you got it cleaned well enough but there is a little chunk of meat deeper in it that you missed. Alot of people inject the wing areas with Rittels preservz-it and that will help. But it is best to make sure it gets removed. But it should stop smelling in time just like Becky mentioned.
