turkey rug

i am in the process of doing a turkey rug and i was wondering if i should tan the turkey hide or if salting it was the way to go

The way we do the rugs is as follow:
1. run wire wheel over skin to get ALL meat and fat off.
2. soak in fuel for 20-30 minutes
3. wash with dawn soap
4. tumble in corn cob for 15-20 minutes
5. blow dry feathers
6. cover skin in borax
7. set feathers in position and let dry.
(tail is not included in 2-5 steps)

Isn't it number 3 then 2, wash then soak in fuel?

Yes you soak in fuel then wash in dawn. Ryan, we use coleman fuel, or whatever brand Wal Mart has in stock.
