I have been reading in the Taxidermy Todays magazine and noticed that the people mounting waterfowl use caulk in the tail and other places. Is it just white latex caulk or is something different. Also is it used mainly as a hide past in these areas to help hold the feather in place.Just was wondering. Thanks John

you can buy it at Menards or Home Depot...it's called White Lightning. Super for holding feathers in place....especially if you skinned down the entire wing.
use clear it won't show any where when it dries
Would hot glue do the same thing as caulk?
Hot glue won't give you any working time to position feathers like caulking will. 100% silicone will cure faster than caulk but make sure you don't have any borax in the areas the silicone will touch. It will cure almost instantly! I found out the hard way!
if you get caulk in a noticeable area. Sprinkle on some borax, wait a little bit and lift off the blob with a pin. You will have better results letting the caulk "skin" up than going after it right away.
