Turkey Leg Broken at knee by stray shots

Submitted by Ray on 5/31/05 at 7:23 PM. ( rlf00@knology.net ) 24.214.17.37

I have a wild turkey with excellent spurs lengths just a bit on one and half inches I would like to mount myself. Can anyone share info on just how to handle this from the wire going down the leg to repair or painting anything that would be of help? Thanks

Use other legs

If you have a spare set of legs, you can remove the spur caps from the broken one and place them on another set of legs. Most taxidermist don't remove the legs during the mounting process, but I do. Without knowing the extent of the damage, it's hard say what your other alternatives are. But, it's quite possible you could repair the broken leg without having to remove the spur caps.

Fake legs.....

If you don't have spare legs, you could buy a pair of fake legs. I believe most major catalogues sell fake ones.
